French gilded and porcelain ‘Basket of Roses’ Chandelier:
with six branches bearing naturalistic porcelain roses each with lampholder in centre; also with centre light in basket; the woven gilded basket suspended by three cords entwined with smaller climbing roses, to top foliate boss. Circa 1910, restored and rewired.

A very thin layer of gold applied to brass or bronze.
top boss, boss
A knob or stud or other round, protruding ornament; the architectural term meaning circular roundel on a the crossing of a ceiling vault. We use 'top boss' to describe the decorative metal knob where the chains or struts meet at the top of a chandelier.
