Large cut glass Ceiling Light with gilt bronze reed-and-ribbon mount:
the glass dish cut with panels of diamond cutting inside an eight-point star; the mount with reed-and ribbon design and acanthus bud finial, suspended on four chains from top boss.
Circa 1910 and restored. Height adjustable.

A knob or stud or other round, protruding ornament; the architectural term meaning circular roundel on a the crossing of a ceiling vault. We use 'top boss' to describe the decorative metal knob where the chains or struts meet at the top of a chandelier.
