Pair of late 19th Century English Girandoles engraved with birds:
the bevelled mirrors with asymmetrical birds, butterflies and a floral spray; each bearing two swivel branches and mounted on blue velvet backs.
Circa 1880 and restored. Small area of distressed mirroring on one lower corner.

Aesthetic

The Aesthetic movement peaked in the 1870s in Britain, promoting 'Art for Art's sake'. Its patterns were influenced by mid-19th Century design reform and the Japanese.
