Pair of French twin branch gilt-bronze ‘Hermes’ Wall Lights:
with symbols of Hermes (Mercury), messenger of the gods; the backplate in the shape of his caduceus entwined by serpents, topped by his winged cap (petasus); the foliate branches with fine scrolls.
Circa 1870 and restored; after a pattern supplied to the Château de Fontainebleau by the bronzer-doreur Antoine-Andre Ravrio before the visit by Pope Pius VII in 1804.
