Silver-plated and cut glass ‘Boat’ Chandelier with beaded sail:
the boat formed with Victorian ‘chain pear’ and ‘Empire’ glass prisms; the sails strung with facet-cut beads; with cut glass pennant and anchor, and pointed spire finials.

Made recently in 1920’s style using Victorian glass.

Glossary Words
'chain-pear' prism
A particularly elegant 18th century cut-glass prism, found on Irish style chandeliers and wall- lights; copied by Osler and others in the late 19th century.
'Empire' prism
Octagonal cut-glass prism with flat front and star-cut back. Used in late 18th century France and also in England on some Regency chandeliers. Lesser-quality prisms were used on chandeliers through the 19th century; a bastardised version is still being made in Bohemia today.
