Suite of four frosted glass Art Deco figurative Light Boxes:
of rectangular form with silver-plated frame; decorated in intaglio in designs with motifs including a lady with hand mirror, one with water jar, and two asymmetrical with clouds. In the manner of Donald Deskey, circa 1935, restored and rewired.
Provenance: Regency Lodge, Swiss Cottage, London.
Can be sold in pairs.

Art Déco

A popular movement in the 1920s and 30s, promoted by Ruhlmann and other great Paris furniture manufacturers, and the big department stores. The style was influenced by Aztec and Egyptian design, the Ballets Russes, Hollywood musicals and the new ocean-going liners. It featured stepped and geometric designs, sunrays and chevrons.

intaglio

A beautiful type of glass-cutting, used by Webb, amongst others, also known as 'ice-cutting'. Italian for carved or incised with a sunk design.
