Aesthetic

The Aesthetic movement peaked in the 1870s in Britain, promoting 'Art for Art's sake'. Its patterns were influenced by mid-19th Century design reform and the Japanese. Motifs featured peacocks, sunflowers, cherry blossom and fans. Thomas Jekyll, Edwin Godwin, Walter Crane and Christopher Dresser were leading designers.
