Cut glass and gilded bronze Baccarat style Lantern:
the Baccarat-style pointed glass shade with deeply cut petals alternating with a diamond design; with handsome Edwardian gilded bronze foliate mount and four struts to top loop. Restored and rewired.

Edwardian

Of the reign of King Edward VII (1901-1910). Following on from the highly-ornamented Victorian age, the Edwardians' style was simpler, with weighty, classical lines, and decorous floral patterns. It celebrated the new electric era but they still continued to use candles, oil and gas in different parts of the house.

gilded, gilt

A very thin layer of gold applied to brass or bronze.

Baccarat

French glass manufacturer founded in 1764 during the reign of Louis XV. Centred in Paris, they made fabulous chandeliers and table glass for royalty, and are still producing high quality glassware today.
