Pair of cut glass ormolu-mounted Candlesticks with china figures:
the porcelain boy and girl, with a basket and a parasol, in a curlicue
gilded openwork frame, on a domed ribbed base with ball feet;
the spiral and lobed-cut cup surrounded by fronds of beads and
pear- shaped pendants.
French, 19th Century, the glass possibly by Baccarat.

Glossary Words

ormolu

A term derived from the French 'or moulu' (ground gold). This special gilding technique is no longer used. It is now done by electro-plating, which uses a chemical process to apply a thin layer of gold. See gilded.

Baccarat

French glass manufacturer founded in 1764 during the reign of Louis XV. Centred in Paris, they made fabulous chandeliers and table glass for royalty, and are still producing high quality glassware today.
