candle branches; dressed with diamond and pear shaped rock crystal pendants, flower rosettes, spire and large pointed finial.

Glossary Words
rock crystal
Natural quartz. Characterised by its fractures, it has a fairy-tale quality when used in chandeliers. Usually clear, it can also be rose, smoke, amber, amethyst, and other colours. It is widely used as an ornamental stone and is also used as a HYPERLINK "http://mineral.galleries.com/minerals/gemstone/class.htm" t "_top" gemstone.
Second Empire
Refers to the reign of Napoleon III (1850-70) which had more flamboyant styles than 'Empire', with more curlicues. The Empress Eugénie revived the Louis XVI style, together with an eclectic mix of sources. Many of our gilt-and-glass French chandeliers are Second Empire.
